Stumbles across this on the internet and thought it was an interesting read Dinosaur and dragon: real or myth? Question: Answers: According to our biology, dinos existed millions of years ago but dragons remains a mythology. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dinosaur and dragons tuff question dinosaurs are said to exist billions and billions of years ago. Dragons are more of a myth that most asians and pacific islanders believe in. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love looking up information as this because I am learnng at the sametime. Enjoy your read. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There seems to be a substantial body of amazingly credible physical evidence that dinosaurs existed, probably far earlier than 6000 years ago Dragons definitely exist in other dimensions. Whether they ever inhabited the 3rd dimension, physically, is still a question, i guess. There are schools of thought that they did, but not too much physical evidence as far as i know. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I believe the myth started in ancient times when people unearthed dino bones and didn't know what they were, so the myth about dragons started...just a thought. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the 1950`s pioneer heart surgeons experimented on certain animals. One such species was crocodiles and their cousins because as a species they are still in their baby form yet grown big. ie by comparison there is very little similarity between an adult human and a newborn baby yet adult and baby crocs are identical bar size. The reason for this is a congenitally defective heart which makes them ideal for experimental surgery. Most of the creatures died immediately yet the few to survive a couple of months underwent a remarkable physical development. The legs grew longer, raising the bodies much further from the ground, and necks developed into long swanlike structures which enabled the creatures to turn their heads gracefully from side to side. In fact they very much resembled the dragons of mythology. I believe it is entirely possible for crocodiles to have been born in the past with healthy hearts and therefore developed into the dragon creatures St George and co loved so much

There is a short story called "The Day of the Dragon" by Guy Endore in which a scientist experiments on aligators, the alligators had a heart defect or an inefficient reptilian heart. So he performs open heart surgery, and the alligators then begin to become much bigger, much more inergetic, and begin to change into dragons. The scientist trys to keep them secure, but of course, they escape and wreak havoc on the world.

I have to say, some people beleive in aliens, some do not, but what if dragons were the extra terrestrials that many thousands of years ago, we came in constact with, by them visiting, and at that time we had no proper recording device, so caveman drew them, then lator they may have come back again, We had no proper way of photographing them, so we drew them, or wote books about them, so on and so forth. So maybe were due a trip from them soon, but maybe, the knights of old tried slaying them, so they don't want to come back, or fear our new techknoledgy. (and if your wondering about how chinese dragons and western dragons looking different blah blah blah, maybe the chinese dragon was like the human race, then the western like the rabbit race, or maybe, like some humans are dark skinned some aren't, that could be the dragon equivelent.)

This is a fairly cult belief. Personally i cant believe this because there is absolutely no evidence to point to this other than the hopeful wishing of various groups of people.
Thats just my opinion though.

Well I can't say I agree with either of you, I don't believe that if dragons existed, there would be a huge connection or something, but I also think that if we take the bone structure of a few different dinosaurs, we see that different parts may have put an idea of some part of the idea in human. So if the idea was just a made-up thing, we may have found bones of certain creatures, and being less clued-up than we are now, may have taken them to be part of something else. Thats just what I think, I now expect polite flames of how thats wrong (I can already think of some)

Why does everyone assume that it was a mistake. Excuse me for yelling, logicalfantasy, but there are many reports of knights battling dragons and I doubt that the mixed up bones in question attacked them. No, it was real live animals. Now, state that those could have been surviving dinosaurs and I will concede the possiblity, but something was attacking medieval people and it was not a mistake.

Lets keep it friendly ey Falc ;D
Its a fairly common theory that dragons became through the findings of old bones.
Its a possibility that it was a contributing element to the belief of dragons but not the main one in my opinion.
Im afraid im still a fan of the, dragons based on creatures, the tales swapped from one group to another and evolving as humans evolved.

Sorry whenever i hear that theory I, as Samwise put it, "get so hot under the collar I could shout."
The crocodillian incident proves that a dragon-like creature is not only probable, it is highly likely. Think about it, a dragon is the best predator that can be found. While I agree that the size is exaggerated and that they are probably the size of elephants or smaller, not as big as T Rex, I believe that they did exist once.

And that opinion, my friend, is certainly one worth having.
Im of the "They didnt exist" brand of people, but i certainly wish they did ;D
