do you think so? I think that if dragons were to appear on earth, either dragon or human would fairly quickly become extinct, because humans with authaurity destroy what they fear or don't understand, I think the armies everywhere would attack the dragons, and either the dragons would die out, or they would anger, and attack back. What are your views?

I think you have voiced a sad truth which in my opinion is undeniable.
But i will play devils advocate on this one. We can only judge the human behaviour on what we have seen of humans so far. And so far, we have over come all predators and developed tools to make the predator the prey.
The dragon however, may be a more formidable foe. Therefore putting us in a position the homosapiens as a race have never been before. Would we submit? would our survival instinct tell us to parlay with the dragons?
If you look at wars between people, the loser often submits and bows to the stronger army. Perhaps with a different, more powerful species it might not be so different. I am only theorising though.

Or, maybe we could become friends, like humans and horses have for example

We are assuming that the dragon would be a sentient being. If it were not then i expect Diamond has a very valid point.
If they were sentient, i dont think our relationship with dragons would be the same as with horses.

yes, As in my opinion, Dragons would need space, and kindness, and humans would be too scared of the new beings to do anything but attack it. Thats the sad thing about the human race, anything we fear has to be evil. And I think the Dragons would be too different than us for us to have the tools to defeat it, it is almost a being of magic, so much power and purity flowing thorugh it's veins. The human would quite quickly have to bow, but people like bush or blair would rather see every single non-important human burnt before giving up!

Phillip i could not agree more. To quote one of the songs i once wrote ... Meeting many, losing more, a strange creature is unknown Unknown becomes the feared and the feared becomes the loathed So as you can see, you took the words right from my mouth

Tottally agree. I think all on this site would love to see dragons but no good could come out of it as the human fear would definetly take over and all hell would break loose.

maybe, but if that were to be true, how could it happen? The genetics for all the differernt parts of the dragon just cant become together now. I think, if there ever were dragons, it would have been before, not after humans, I must agree, I think there are many connections between dono and draco. But then again, this may sound crazy, but why do we see them as earthbound, this sounds quite hard to believe even to me, but has no-one considered aliens?

Good to see I'm not the only cynic around! Wow, that's an interesting one LogicalFantasy, aliens is a whole debate of it's own isn't it? It's another one of many things like the existence of dragons that you can't really know (not currently anyway - unless you have been abducted?), and I guess it all comes down to whether you believe in them or not. If you do, I can't see any reasons why a dragon couldn't have come from another planet, but the way they have been portrayed in history very much follows the laws of our own planet. Although whether that's because the people depicting them are humans who are bound by our own laws of physics and biology is another question again! The existence/evolution of dragons has nothing to do with humans though and therefore I think it isn't really relevant to say before/after humans. As it is we see it as most likely that if they exist(ed) it is most likely that they would have evolved from dinosaurs, but why not from todays reptiles or even birds? In which case they may be yet to come. Dragons have been depicted in so many different ways that we could be talking about any number of potential species all quite different from each other. There's even loads of examples in nature of species that appear similar but which have evolved from entirely different ancestors. In the same way you could get several dragons evolving as separate phenomena. Crazy isn't it?

I agree Tali, there is always the possibility that the dragon might be a species that evolves after the last human has had its breath. Personally i dont see it. As mentioned the dragon is very much a creature that has followed our own history. Yes possibily as our way of interpreting their being but more likely because they are a direct result of our minds trying to explain that which could not be explained.
