I think colours that enabled them to blend into their natural habitats is likely.
Alternatively they could be psychodelic to warn sparrows and things not to eat them, like poisonous caterpillars!
Though don't know how much dragons would feel threatened by sparrows....

They could have been huge birds, rather resembling Big Bird from Sesame Street

But they wouldn't be very scary if they had Big Birds voice. Would need to be a bit more husky sounding

I was just wondering what color people think dragons should be, as if you look for one in a shop you can pretty much get one in any color you like! Lol! My theory is that any color you would find a reptile in, you would find a dinosaur in. I would also apply that to dragon's. I've seen frogs in red, blue, green, brown, and yellow.

I agree, i think dragons were mainly portrayed as large reptiles or snakes. That being the case i think we can assume their colors would have been based on these creatures as well.
